Items needed for the project

I spent a lot of time looking for the right type of plastic box. Their was standards it had to meet as far as criteria went. It had to be strong and not be able to melt with the heat of the bulb. I needed to attach a few things so a cheapy would not do. When you make a hole in a cheap plastic box it does not tend to stay a hole and  you end up throwing it away because it cracked. I had to be able to sterilize it as well.

I bought this item as it was cheap and being plastic I could wash it and keep it clean easily. It is actually used for venting in a wall and can be bought at most hardware stores. It is adjustable as well. I thought it would be great to be able to adjust the airflow in and out of the box to regulate the warmth and humidity inside.

This is a hobby electric box made for electrical projects like this. It was a few pounds and I had it posted to me. Bought via E-bay.

This is a standard three pin electrical plug.

A wall mounted light fitting. I took this one as it would be able to mount it on the side of the biltong box and would mean that I could wipe any juices that dripped on the bottom with ease. It would also be more hygienic as it would stay clean and clear of any blood and spices.

This is what is called a fire bulb.  It's 60w and is more like a infrared light that creates warmth and not so much light. Also an ebay item was posted to me.

This is what I bought, a double computer fan. They posted me two single fans instead. It worked out for the best as you will see later on on the blog. If you have ever had the chance to open a computer or even looked at the back of the computer you will have seen these. They are standard CPU fans that are low voltage and made tun for thousands of hours so you will not have to worry about wear and tear.

This is normal 3 core electrical wire blue, brown and green and yellow.

A great thing to have, but a temperature  and humidity sensor is not really needed. I bought it and only payed 3 pounds for it on ebay imported from china. This item allowed me to adjust temp and humidity with the adjustable air vent.

This is a 12v 500mA transformer. I got it to attach to the computer fans. I guess I could have just used the power pack from a old computer but they are very large and would mean that it would be over engineered for the purpose I was using if for.

This wire was only going to be carrying 12v and so I worked out that to drive the fans I needed the four colors to make connecting it up easy. I love E-bay again

I bought these simple stitches as they are going on the 12v side of the transformer and I wanted to be able to switch the fans on and off if needed

As you can see a much more robust switch that would control the main light bulb that carried normal current.

You have seen these in your cupboard and they can be bought at hardware stores.

I bought these hooks for the biltong itself.
